The music/movie match didn't always work, but when it did, it was enough to make me form a few conspiracy theories of my own. As with "The Wizard of Oz," the music was started exactly at the beginning of the film and played through the first 43 minutes. A former Abbey Road Studios engineer who worked on Pink Floyds iconic Dark Side of the Moon album agrees that the records supposed connection to the 1939 Wizard of Oz film is fun, but theres nothing more to it than coincidence and apophenia. But what the "Dark Side" soundtrack provides is the urgent thrum of synthesizers in "On the Run" - hardly a perfect match. Actually, the best argument for the "Dark Side" synchronicity being coincidence is the amount of on-screen action that doesn't match the music.įor instance, when Dorothy is singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," the images on-screen are wistful and calm. ![]()
